First day in Chauny

Our plane landed in Paris this morning.

Soon after that, we were en route for the countryside of Picardie to meet our hosts in the little town of Chauny.

There, we were met by the Mayor, some local journalists and all the French families who came to welcome us with much joy.  

We toured the beautiful town hall and the Mayor told us about the long history of friendship between French and American that started during the WWII when the US army freed Chauny from the occupation. 

We then had a drink, sang happy birthday (it was the Mayor's birthday), learned why Chauny's mascot is a monkey, took some pictures in the Mayor's chair and then each went with their family to spend the weekend.
